The “Moving Forward Revolution”: Empowerment After Election…
I needed time to process everything from the election. I’ve been experiencing so many emotions all at once, but the strongest feeling that keeps rising to the surface is hurt. Hurt for my Black children, hurt for women, hurt for the LGBTQ+ community—but especially hurt for Black women. It’s a painful realization that no matter how exceptional we are, we’re still deemed “not good enough” by their standards, even though we are more than enough in every way.
It feels like dealing with a friend, family member, or partner you keep hoping will finally do the right thing. When you need them to show up for you, they let you down again, proving they won’t change. At some point, you have to accept it and move on. In this moment, I’m choosing to do just that. It’s time to move forward and focus on myself, my family, and my community of black women.
Right now, I’m figuring out exactly how to do that. I have some ideas in mind but whatever I decide to do will be to better the women around me. Honestly, we are tired and will shift our focus on saving ourselves because what yesterday proved, we are in this alone.
I may not know my next move yet, but I know I’ll allow myself to feel everything I need to for now. The “Moving Forward Revolution” starts now, because no matter what, I am an educated Black woman, and I will make my own seat at the table—or create my own damn table, as I’ve always done.
This is not the time to just complain and do nothing. Now is the time for all of us to do something about it!
